The next Sydney International Boat Show will not occur until August 1 through 5, 2019, in Sydney’s Darling Harbour, but it is already being planned. Billed as “The Southern Hemisphere’s Premier Boat Show,” it is where enthusiasts go each year for the most current information and showings having to do with recreational boating and to hopefully make their boating dreams a reality after seeing what is being offered.
The Upper Level of the Exhibition Centre has the outdoor Event Deck with two huge pools that host demonstrations of marine products. It is also where the outdoor beverage and food bar is located where one can relax and enjoy a panoramic view of the city.
Before 1968, boats were displayed only as a portion of a motor or other show, but this Sydney International Boat Show became a stand-alone event in 1968 and made several moves before its long stint at Darling Harbour with the opening of the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre in 1989, which was just a short walk to Cockle Bay.
A major upgrade of Darling Harbour began in 2013 and required another temporary facility at Glebe Island with the marina demonstrations in Cockle Bay, which demanded a ferry for guests going between the two locations. The 50th Sydney International Boat Show in 2017 marked a full return to Darling Harbour with spectacular marina displays minutes away on Cockle Bay.
Organizing the shows is the Boating Industry Association Ltd (BIA) that promotes recreational boating as a positive, safe, and rewarding lifestyle and hobby by showings by manufacturers, wholesalers, and retailers of products and services to the recreational consumer and the commercial marine operators. BIA also provides a forum for the discussion of industry needs as well as its problems and solutions and acts as the industry representative to federal, state and local government agencies, the media, and the public.
Now having joined the Boat Show is the Australia International Dive Expo with exhibitors showing the gear and giving the information needed to enjoy the sport of scuba diving. An on-site pool allows the opportunity to experience scuba diving with the guidance of professional instructors, and the dive gear workshops are an outstanding place for beginners to be advised about the needed equipment and for experienced divers to learn the ways to keep gear well maintained.
