You don’t have to be in the market for a new vehicle to see the value in attending a major auto show. Not only are these shows informative one-stop shops for prospective buyers, but they also are an entertaining way to see the latest in auto innovation. Nearly every major world city has its own version of an auto show. However, there are a few that are must-sees for both casual onlookers and strong auto enthusiasts:

Chicago Auto Show

As the largest automobile exhibition in North America, the Chicago Auto Show is the granddaddy of them all. With an average of 1,000 vehicles on exhibition each year, this perennial show outranks even Detroit’s show in overall attendance. Held at the venerable McCormack Place convention center on the banks of the shores of Lake Michigan, this show is a once-in-a-lifetime event for auto enthusiasts everywhere.

Pebble Beach Car Week

Although not as expansive as some of its competitors, the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance offers up a racier and richer experience than other car shows. As part of the annual Monterey Car Week events and exhibitions, this show attracts various celebrities drawn to the many rare car models featured at this high-end event.

Frankfurt Motor Show

If Chicago’s show is the king of the nation, Frankfurt’s is the king of the world. Known officially as the Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung, this show features commercial vehicles during even-numbered years in Hanover, while passenger vehicles are on display on odd-numbered years in Frankfurt.

Auto Shanghai

As one of the most densely populated places on the planet, Shanghai is a natural location to host one of the world’s largest car shows. Held every two years, this show attracts a strong showing for both European and North American manufacturers looking to market their vehicles to discerning Asian customers looking for something a little more out of the box.

North American International Auto Show

Located in the epicenter of American car innovation and development, this annual show in Detroit, Michigan also doubles as home to the most prestigious awards ceremonies for North American automakers. This grand stage is often used to reveal new models and technological innovations of the biggest American automobile companies including Ford, General Motors, and Dodge.
